Permission for a replacement dwelling was obtained by Wood Associates to a definite brief from our clients calling for a dramatic increase in the size of built form. Planning Committee was convinced by the concept of recreating a traditional farmhouse with a nearby barn. In this case the two new buildings were attached by a highly glazed link block containing the swimming pool and leisure facilities.

Although the house echoes the form and materials of a traditional British farm, the details and stonework, hand crafted in India, reflect the cultural heritage of the clients and the building is a successful synthesis of the integration of both cultures.
